Rama Dama in Germering

For several years, the city of Germering has been organizing a so-called “Rama Dama“ event, which could be translated as “we are cleaning up”. Volunteers and local schools participate in this event that aims to free the local greens and forests from waste.

This year, Thermo Fisher Scientific was the first local company ever to join the event. A few employees volunteered to clean up the greens along the Landsberger Strasse close to the site. Thanks to the support of Rüdiger Obst, Kathrin and Marcus Ohlhaut, Christian Hilmer and Christoph Kessler, Susanne Kuchler and mayor Andreas Haas, Germering becomes cleaner and cleaner.

“Germering Chromeleons” Score Rank 7 in the Competition “Germeringer Stadtradeln”

StadtradelnThis year, the Dionex Softron GmbH joined the local competition “Germeringer Stadtradeln” for the first time.

The goal of this competition is to cover as many kilometers as possible by bike instead of using the car, for instance.

The focus of the “Germeringer Stadtradeln” is to raise the participants’ awareness of environmental protection, and in particular of  the reduction of each person’s CO2 output.

Our team, the “Germering Chromeleons” reached the top ten: the 26 participants from the company covered 7,643 kilometers by bike, saved 1,100.6 kg of CO2 and scored rank 7. One of our employees even managed to break the 1000 kilometers mark within these three weeks!

Chromeleon™ Specialists Training for CM 7.2

ChromeleonIn the week from 1st to 4th of July 2013, the first of two trainings for Chromeleon™ specialists took place at our Germering site.

More than 30 CM support specialists from Europe and Asia were trained on the new functionalities of our recently launched chromatography software Chromeleon 7.2 by performing specific technical exercises with the software. The training was also focused on an optimized positioning of the software against competitors’ products to underline the advantages of Chromeleon and to convince even more customers that Chromeleon is the ideal choice.

Three and a half days full of intensive discussions, conversation and a lot of fun were topped by a typical Bavarian evening in a local beer garden. The live-training earned very positive feedback from all support specialists who were extremely motivated and learned a lot throughout this week.

Matching Gift Program to Aid European Flood Victims

Following several days of intense and heavy rain, central Europe is experiencing catastrophic floods that have burst dams, forced thousands of people to evacuate their homes, and killed at least one dozen people.

Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic are among the countries struggling the most – with some cities experiencing the worst floods in decades – and emergency workers and volunteers are working to contain the damage and assist in the recovery and cleanup efforts.

To assist with the relief and recovery efforts, Thermo Fisher Scientific has established a matching program for employee contributions to the Red Cross Societies and International Federation of the Red Crescent. The company will match 50 percent of employee donations made to these organizations.

The program has been designed to ensure that your individual donations can be put to work immediately, while the company match will be sent to the Red Cross after the campaign ends.

GirlsDay – Mädchen-Zukunftstag

GirlsDayOn April 25, 2013, the annual Girls’ Day – Mädchen-Zukunftstag took place all over Germany. For us as a participating company, it was an ideal opportunity to offer an insight into our everyday business and to share our enthusiasm about science with the girls.

8 girls in the age of 11-15 joined us for one day visiting different departments at our Germering site. Our HPLC products were introduced to the girls and they learned a lot about the tasks and responsibilities of the Software Engineering and the Technical Writing, the Assembly and Product Management. The participants were informed about the Recruiting Process and the possibilities of apprenticeships at our site.

With our program, we wanted to raise the girls’ interest in technical and science professions – and we are confident we reached that goal J. A big thank you to the girls, we had a lot of fun spending the day with you.

We are very looking forward to the Girls’ Day next year!
